Gazette Notification of Two Native Buffalo Breeds from Karnataka and Odisha

In order to protecting the valuable animal germplasm in the country and claiming its sovereignty over the germplasm, the registered breeds of livestock and poultry are Gazette Notified by the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Government of India. Recently, two newly registered buffalo breeds were notified in Official Gazette by the Government of India in October, 2021 [Gazette Notification: Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, No. 3839 (S.O.4174(E)) (October 8, 2021)]. Till date 199 breeds of livestock and poultry species and 3 breeds of dog has been notified through Gazette notifications

Earlier, in 9th Breed Registration Committee meeting chaired by Dr B N Tripathi, DDG (AS), ICAR held on 16th August, 2021, two new breeds of buffalo were registered. Including these newly registered buffalo breeds, total number of indigenous breeds now in the country is 202, which include 50 for cattle, 19 for buffalo, 34 for goat, 44 for sheep, 7 for horses & ponies, 9 for camel, 10 for pig, 3 for donkey, 1 for yak, 19 for chicken, 2 for duck, 1 for geese and 3 of dog.
