Mission towards Zero Non-Descript AnGR of India: Interface Meeting on AnGR of Ladakh (UT)

First State-wise Interface Meet in line of “Mission towards zero non-descript AnGR of India” was held with Ladakh (Union Territory) by ICAR-NBAGR.   With the theme “Characterization and Documentation of Animal Genetic Resources of Ladakh: A mission towards Zero Non-Descript Population” the meet was organized through video conferencing on 6th September, 2021. The meet had the confluence of 95 delegates from Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Leh, DRDO, ICAR, SKAUST, SAHD, NGOs, etc.

Shri Tashi Namgyal Vakzee, Hon’ble Executive Councilor, LAHDC, Dr. B N Tripathi, DDG (AS), ICAR, Sh. Ravinder Kumar, Secretary, Animal Husbandry, Ladakh (UT) and Dr V K Saxena, ADG (AP&B), had their gracious presence in the meet.

In opening of the meet, Dr. B P Mishra, Director, NBAGR, Karnal welcomed the participants and presented the contribution of the bureau in recognizing and documenting native AnGR in the country, and taking forward the mission towards Zero Non-descript AnGR. Dr Manishi Mukesh, NBAGR; Dr VK Bharti, DRDO-DIHAR; Dr Stanzen Rabgais, AHD-Leh; Dr FD Sheikh, KVK-Leh presented the research and development activities carried out on Ladakh AnGR by their organizations.  Dr KV Singh, NBAGR described the strategy for documenting native AnGR of the UT. A panel of eminent scientists and technocrats also discussed the way forward for characterization, improvement and conservation of native AnGR of Ladakh.

Sh. Ravinder Kumar emphasized the role of animal husbandry for supporting farmers of UT Ladakh. Shri Tashi, Hon’ble Executive Councilor praised ICAR, specifically NBAGR for recognizing native AnGR of Ladakh. Dr. B N Tripathi, DDG(AS), ICAR guided to promote animal husbandry based socioeconomic development in Ladakh.
