10th meeting of “ICAR-Breed Registration Committee” was held on August 31, 2022, at 10.30 AM, online to discuss and register indigenous breeds of various livestock species in the country. The meeting was chaired by Dr. BN Tripathi, Deputy Director General(Animal Science), ICAR. Dr. Praveen Malik, Animal Husbandry Commissioner, DAHD, Govt. of India, Dr. VK Saxena, ADG (AP&B), ICAR, Dr. BP Mishra, Director, ICAR-NBAGR, Dr. TK Dutta, Director, ICAR-CIRB, Dr. A Mitra, Director, ICAR-CIRC, Dr. AK Tomar, Director, ICAR-CSWRI, Dr. VK Gupta, Director, ICAR-NRC on Pig and other senior level scientists of ICAR also attended the meeting.
Earlier, country-wide 73 new breeds were registered, which included 63 of livestock, 7 of poultry and 3 of dog. After registration, all the registered breeds are further Gazette notified by the DARE, GoI.
During the meeting, the chairman showed satisfaction over the efforts for documenting and preserving AnGR diversity of the country. Further, emphasizing the importance of breed registration, he also appreciated the ‘Zero Non-descript AnGR Mission’ initiated by ICAR-NBAGR across the country.
In his welcome address, Dr B P Mishra, Director, NBAGR briefed the activities of the Mission for documenting native AnGR in various states. He informed that the Bureau has created awareness among stakeholders through conducting Interface Meets with 13 states/UT and increasing trend in number of breed applications received at the Bureau.
Dr R K Pundir, Member Secretary, BRC presented the agenda for consideration of new livestock populations and other related issues during the meeting.
