A webinar in the series celebrating Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, was organized at ICAR-NBAGR on 11th October 2021through VC. The lecture on “FAO Guidelines on Genomic Characterization of Animal Genetic Resources” was delivered by Dr. Kathiravan Periasamy, Livestock Geneticist, Animal Production and Health Division, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, Rome, Italy. Several dignitaries, past and present Directors of ICAR Institutes, Scientists, technicians, students and research scholars attended the webinar. Dr BP Mishra, Director, NBAGR welcomed the Guest Speaker and all participants and emphasized the significance of the guidelines in the present context. Dr. Kathiravan elaborated the past and present techniques used for characterization of Animal Genetic Resources. The proposed guidelines by FAO, for use of next generation sequencing tools for genomic characterization of Livestock were also detailed followed by discussion. The programme was coordinated by Dr. Reena Arora.
