A webinar in the series celebrating Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, was organized at ICAR-NBAGR on 30th November 2021 through Virtual Conferencing. The lecture on “Sustainable Use and Genetic Improvement of Indigenous Livestock Breeds” was delivered by Dr. Chanda Nimbkar, Director, Animal Husbandry Division, Nimbkar Agricultural Research Institute, Phaltan, Maharashtra. Several dignitaries, past and present Directors of ICAR-NBAGR, Scientists, students and research scholars attended the webinar. Dr R S Gandhi, Head Animal Genetic Resources & Former ADG, ICAR welcomed the Guest Speaker and all participants and emphasized the importance of sustainability in improvement of livestock in India. Dr. Nimbkar presented very comprehensive and insightful information on community based programmes on indigenous livestock improvement. She also pointed out that the genetic selection also needs to be given due importance in enhancing productivity of indigenous breeds with specific reference to goats.
