ICAR-NBAGR celebrated ‘World Intellectual Property Day’ on the theme “Women & IP: Accelerating Innovation & Creativity” on 26th April 2023 with all the Scientific staff and Research Scholars including RA, SRF, PG & Ph.D. students working in the institute.
Dr B P Mishra, Director, ICAR-NBAGR chaired the event. In his address, Dr Mishra talked about the importance of research and derived Intellectual Property (IP) in the animal sector. Urging the researchers to apply for more IPs, especially patents and Geographical Indications, he said that many of the research works have the potential IPs, however, there is prudent to give due importance to the IPs. He further informed that the Bureau is working on animal variety registration.
Dr S K Niranjan, Pr. Scientist & I/c Institute Technology Management Unit (ITMU) on the occasion delivered the lecture on “Intellectual Property Rights (IPR)” to sensitize the faculty members and young scholars. In his lecture, he described various kinds of Intellectual Properties (IPs), IP laws, and their filing process existing in the country. Important IPs for animal sciences were also emphasized.
Dr Monika Sodhi, In-charge of the Women Cell talked about the importance of the present theme of the World IP Day – Women & IP and reckoned the important contributions made by the women in IP creation.
An Extempore Competition was also organized on the theme of Women & IP, wherein 15 research scholars participated. The scholars presented their views on improving the contribution of women in research and IP creation and supported a conducive research ecosystem. Winners of the competition were also awarded certificates by the Director, ICAR-NBAGR. The program was organized jointly by the ITMU and the Women Cell of the institute.
