ICAR-National Bureau of Animal Genetic Resources celebrated its 38th foundation day with high jubilation on 21st September, 2021.
Chief guest, Dr M L Madan, Haryana state Vigyan Ratna and Former DDG (AS), ICAR complimented the staff for the remarkable achievements of the bureau for management of AnGR in the country. In his address, he highlighted the need to achieve the nutritional security in the country, for which AnGR would be playing the significant role in coming future. Bureau has to accept the greater responsibility for working towards enhancing the utility of native AnGR, as well as maintaining AnGR biodiversity for the goal. He resounded the bureau’s vision of Zero Non-descript AnGR.
Guests of honor – Dr Arjava Sharma, and Dr B Prakash former Directors also complimented the bureau on their achievements.
Earlier in his welcome address, Dr BP Mishra, Director, ICAR-NBAGR highlighted important achievements of the bureau, including registration and gazette notification of native breeds, cryopreservation of germplasm and designing of SNP Chips, further informing of initiating zero non-descript AnGR mission.
NBAGR-Foundation Day lecture was delivered through virtual mode by Padma Shree-Prof. Anil Kumar Gupta, CSIR Bhatnagar Fellow. Emphasizing over the value addition of native AnGR, he necessitated characterizing the products and identifying important parameters in collaboration of different organizations. He also emphasized over conserving the common property resources, as niche-based conservation. Lecture was attended by about 100 participants of different organizations.
Awards for Best scientist, technical, administrative and supportive staff were also conferred on the occasion. Also on the occasion, Rajbhasa Purashkar were distributed to participants in various categories. A thematic platform on native breeds biodiversity, as a Selfie point with AnGR awareness to the visitors was also inaugurated by the Guests in Bureau premise.
