ICAR-National Bureau of Animal Genetic Resources (NBAGR), Karnal organized “Breed Conservation Award-2024” on 23rd December, 2024 on “National Farmers Day” and felicitated animal breeders/farmers and institutions, across the country, for their efforts for conserving the indigenous animal breeds.
Dr A K Srivastava, Vice Chancellor, U.P. Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyay Pashu Chikitsa Vigyan Vishwavidyalaya Evam Go-Ansundhan Sansthan, Mathura and chief guest of the occasion congratulated all the winners for their outstanding efforts for the conservation. Emphasizing over preserving indigenous breed diversity, he complimented the efforts of the Bureau and urged for creating larger associations among all kinds of stakeholders in the country. Shri Jagat Hazarika, Advisor (Statistics), Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairying, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying, Govt. of India, New Delhi, and Dr R K Pundir, Head AGR Div. on the occasion told that native livestock breeds are country’s heritage. He also congratulated the winners of Breed Conservation Awards on the occasion and addressed the delegates.
Dr BP Mishra Director of the Bureau welcomed all the delegates. In his address, he said that the Bureau is striving to conserve the indigenous livestock biodiversity through involving various agencies and other stakeholders. Bureau is continuously organizing the event since 2017 and honouring the farmers and stakeholders for breed conservation on the occasion of the Kisan Diwas, he informed.
Dr AK Mishra, Principal Scientist, ICAR-NBAGR and the convenor of the Award and Dr S K Niranjan organiser of the ceremony informed that more than 40 applications from different states of the country were received for the Award under Individual and Institutional categories, this year.
