Under the Mission towards Zero Non-descript Animal Genetic Resources of India, ICAR-NBAGR organized its 9th State Interface Meet for Haryana state on 10th February, 2022, in virtual mode. The meeting on “Characterization and Documentation of Animal Genetic Resources of Haryana” was attended by 127 participants from ICAR, Lala Lajpatrai University of Veterinary & Animal Science, Animal Husbandry Department, Govt. of Haryana.
Dr V K Saxena, ADG (AP&B), ICAR highlighted the need to develop distinguishable characters based strategy to identify the breeds and their grades. He also emphasized the role of Advanced Reproduction Technology including cloning in improvement program. Dr (Maj) V S Rathi, Credit Planning Officer, AHD, Haryana appreciated the effort of ICAR-NBAGR in initiating this very important mission and offered all out support in characterizing the non-descript population of the state in a time bound manner. Dr T K Datta Director ICAR-CIRB underlined the need to implement breeding policy by the state with input from ICAR institutes and to collaborate in recording of production data for bull evaluation.
In his welcome address, Dr BP Mishra, Director, ICAR-NBAGR briefed the Bureau’s activities and described the strategies for achieving the Mission.
Dr M S Tantia, ICAR-NBAGR suggested the strategies for identification of new populations, mainly of small ruminants, pig and equine in the state. Dr. S S Dhaka, LUVAS presented about AnGR improvement and conservation activities undertaken by the university. Dr S S Juneja AHD, Haryana highlighted various development programme by Animal Husbandry Department for native breeds of Haryana state. During the interface meet, a panel of experts from ICAR institutes, State Veterinary University, State Animal Husbandry Dept. etc. provided important inputs for documentation of non-descript AnGR and conservation and improvement of native breeds of the Haryana state.
